The newly reformatted Challenge Cup will be a Supercup match, this season a rematch of the 2024 NWSL Championship between the Orlando Pride and the Washington Spirit. The regular NWSL season will begin the following week.

2020- 2023 format:
In the initial four years of the competition, each NWSL team engaged in a group stage, typically featuring four to six games, often organized based on geographic divisions. Subsequently, knockout matches were held to ascertain the Cup winner. In the 2023 season, the NWSL shifted the tournament schedule to align with the season itself, responding to player apprehensions regarding injuries.
2025 format:
This year, the NWSL Challenge Cup will feature a rematch of the 2024 NWSL Championship between the Orlando Pride and the Washington Spirit.
